This is the spider that Chance found in the house a few weeks ago. Dan saw this one crossing the road and stopped to take its picture. This one is called an Arizona Desert Blondi Tarantula. The one we had in the house was slightly different colored. Dooley This is about full size.
Chance found a spider THAT size - in the HOUSE!!!!!!!!! You wouldn't have seen me for dust if I'd spotted it.
Tarantulas are gentle spiders. They won't bite unless cornered. Lots of people keep them as pets. This time of the year they mate and find places to spend the winter. I was very upset when I killed one by accident when I was digging. They live in holes in the ground. Dooley
Dooley, I would not want to live where they are that plentyful.Heather is so afraid of any kind of spider she would never come to see me if those were here.LOL I'm not afraid so much as I just don't like them.
Oh my! I think I would stay tightly shut away indoors with those roaming around! I don't mind spiders in the great outdoors......but tarantulas!!
freaky spiders Too bad one died while digging. I even avoid ants. For me, it depends on the size of the spider. I'm OK with the smaller ones. The bigger ones can stay back away from me. I wouldn't be able to sleep if tarantulas were native to where I lived.
Wow, can't imagine what I'd do if I found one of those clinging to my ceiling.... The one thing that always strikes me about tarantula's is that they are quite slow. That makes them less scary than some of it's relatives, I think. As long as they stay outdoors, I find them pretty fascinating. Isn't it a shame so many people go and buy them to keep as pets, whereas they are so much more interesting in their natural habitats. Dooley, I think you are fortunate to be sharing your garden with these creatures. The one in the photo is quite a beauty!
Wow! That is one BIG spider! And to think that I was freaked out by a 'Jumping Spider' that was in the shower with me one day ... he was only half an inch long! Not too sure how I would react if I found a tarantula ...
WOW, Dooley, That is huge, but cool! I am not sure I would wnat to find one in my house, but knowing they are not dangerous does help. It's not like a black widow or brown recluse...little but deadly. We have a young lady at church who's father died from a black widow bite a few years ago... . You can at least see these.

That picture was taken a while ago when we lived in Arizona. We saw them often. Now, we live in Texas and haven't seen any here. dr said he saw a tarantula hawk the other day. I always hated them because they kill the tarantula and I liked the tarantulas better than the tarantula hawks. dooley
