I've had this houseplant plant for years and never knew its name. Can someone ID it please and perhaps lead me to a link for its carte? I'm concerned because it seems to be 'bolting' (you can see at the top how it's shot up). I don't want to see it die and any help would be extremely welcome. Thank you so much! It's "leaves" are so long they touch the floor and curl around. They must be 5-feet long or more. The link you gave me didn't indicate whether they can/should be cut. What do you think?
Hi hudakore, This plant is a ponytail palm, or the latin name: Beaucarnea Recurvata. I have grown one of these for years indoors (I am in the Northeast). The center stalk gradually becomes taller and taller as the plant ages. In the south they are outdoor plants. I have seen them growing outdoors in FL and being 10-12 feet tall. I would not cut the dangling leaves. I think it is just what this plant does. Only cut them off once they become dried out. I hope you enjoy your Beaucarnea Recurvata. It looks pretty happy to me!
I notice you have it sitting on a stool... that is very good because they do not like for their leaves to touch the floor/ground. Maybe you could raise it a bit more by placing an inverted pot or something? By the way.... it's beautiful! Mine is kept outdoors, I just have to make sure it gets covered when there is a frost/freeze.
Beaucarnea recurvata (Ponytail Palm) One of the common names is Elephant foot palm. But is not a Palm, it's in the Lily family
