Yes, these Gulmohar trees, also known as Delonix Regia, (see link about them below) - Are about to reach full bloom in and around the city of Karachi. So the moment that happens (in a few weeks time), the entire canopy of these trees will have a blazing ruby red top! But for now, here I am sharing some pictures of these wonderful trees as they are now! cheryl lad I thought so too it has leaves like mimosa but the flowers are drop dead gorgeous but then I am partial to red anyway lol thanks so much s-h for sharing

I think a yellow Gulmohar tree also exists, but I've never seen it in reality. Anyway people, here is the latest from my part of the world! As the trees are reaching their full bloom - ENJOY! Yes, a pilot friend recently told me that as one is about to land at Karachi International Airport's runway 07L (approaching from the west), these Gulmohar trees can be seen from the air at this time of the year - Which look exactly as if someone scattered some tiny ruby gems on the ground! Karachi really is a very hot and unforgiving coastal semi-desert. So we have very few indigenous plants and trees of our own. About 90% of the trees and plants we see, are actually brought in from elsewhere. But this wonderful tree however happens to be one of very few that we can call our own - As it can handle our climate very well! Glendann! Yes, I think it would indeed be a great idea if you too would grow this tree! So just let me know if you are having any trouble finding it's seeds - And I'll try to mail you some! However this is a heat loving tree, so if it is ever grown in a place where it may snow - Then chances are that it will not survive for long... Jerry, well, it depends actually (for how long does the tree remain in bloom). Gulmohar trees which are planted in good quality soil and also get water plus full sun - Often stay in bloom for as long as 2 months (perhaps even more)! While in poorer growing conditions, maybe just for a few weeks perhaps... By the way, the flowers are not fragrant at all. Actually, come to think of it, they don't even attract any insects...
No, not at all, they have a very smooth bark (without any sharp spike/thorn). The tree is also somewhat fast growing - And thus is actually ideal for making a tree house (but only after the tree is big enough)! It is really a decorative tree, so other than it's looks, it isn't of any other use. Perhaps this is why it is not planted in homes - As people here like to have fruit giving trees and plants. But outside on the streets, in parks, and in other public areas (like on the Karachi University campus) - This tree is very common! And as I has said so before, when in full bloom, it can be seen from the air too!
