Hi my name is Cameron. I've been gardening for several years now. I enjoy growing houseplants and tropicals such as plumerias, epiphyllums, dragon fruit, and bananas. I have grown most of my plumerias from seed and I have over 50 seedlings. I have 16 different types of epiphyllums too.
TP87 sending you a big warm welcome from Wisconsin. Warm is an understatement with all the heat we have been having. Sounds like you have a green hand and not just a green thumb. I'm glad you found this friendly, helpful, and fun gardening community with folks from all over the world. Looking forward to seeing pic's of all your plants and such. Have a super day and do try and stay cool.
Thanks Tooty2shoes. This heat has really been brutal. I think its going to be 105 here today. My area missed out on the rain yesterday. Last year I lost 90% of my plants to the heat and drought, but with all of my plumeria seedlings and epis I have a big collection again lol.
Hi TXPlumeria... welcome from SE Texas. Can't wait to see all of your tropicals. How do you keep them alive up there over the winter?
Thanks Cherylad! Both my houseplants and my tropical plants get crowded in front of 2 south facing windows during winter. Its hard to water a lot of them because the space is so small. They look sort of bad during winter but as soon as I put them outside in spring they grow beautifully. Most of my houseplants that tolerate low light I put in the bedrooms and save the window space for plants that need much more light. I have to do a lot of moving around but it has worked for the past 4 years.
Hi Cameron, welcome to GardenStew from another member in north Texas. Yep I lost track of how many plants I lost last year and the losses have started again this year. My yard got no rain yesterday either. We sat in the outdoor furniture section of Lowe's watching it just blow and pour, couldn't even get out to the truck for several minutes but at home, less than 2 miles away it was high, dry and like a sauna. You can insert photos into posts too, that makes it a larger photo and easier for some of us with older eyes to see.
Thank you eileen and toni! Last year I had to dump a few buckets of water on my plants but they still died. The storms yesterday formed north and moved south, i heard thunder and there was few drops of rain, but the storm died out and then reformed just to the south lol. I'll post some pictures of my plants for everyone
