    Thank you Theodoros,
i had two volunteer plants in the garden so far this year,..both are Poppies about three feet high,..they grew in amongst the Lupins,..but the person who gave me the Lupin seeds doesn't have Poppies,..i did have a species of Poppy but not like the present volunteers,..only one has flowered so far.

At last it stopped raining here,..so a river walk was the order of the day,..Molly the Springer is a total wreck,..too much swimming,..while i took some cuttings home of "Yellow Loosestrife",..not related to "Purple Loosestrife",..but i think to "Moneyworth".

    Hi Carolyn,
weeds,..,..i get very few weeds only because there are so many plants,..they would deprive the weeds from sunlight,..but truly i have few weeds,..plants popping up like Foxgloves,..and Purple Fennel,..all over the place.

Complaining Deanna,..grrrrr too many foxgloves and Purple Fennel seedlings popping up,..now if they were weeds i could pull them and dispose of them but as they are useful to someone i hate to waste them,..i already gave away loads of rose cuttings that took, the same with Curry plant, and various mints,..alas no keen gardeners around here.

    But look higher.

This rose bush grows VERY high and it always bugged me that i could never appreciate the blooms,..i did prune at the end of summer then again at start of spring,..i still got a rose bush over ten foot high,..so i put down a stake each side,..tied wire from one stake across to the other then tied each rose bush cane down to the wire with twine,..green twine.

That is a lovely rose Philip. How do you make rose cuttings root? I tried layering last fall & it didn't take.

Stratsmom--I have a rose Zepherine. It took a while to amount to anything, but now it is beautiful. It can withstand some shade & I have a lot of shade. it is very healthy & easy.

    Hi Cheryl,
that's good,..the green garden twine is worth using when taking pictures.

    Hi Cayuga Morning,
taking the rose cutting is easy enough,..cut a rose cane just below a bud or joint,..cut the tip off the cutting so the cutting does not keep trying to grow,..also reduce some of the leaves on the cutting,..dip the cutting in Rooting Powder or Rooting Gel,..if you do this in summer time then you won't need any covering.

Philip--thank you so much. I will try it this weekend. But, how big a cutting do I start with? 6" (15 cm)? And how wide should the stem be?

Try and select a young rose cane,..as it will not be very thick,..however i use any rose cane that needs to be removed from my pathway and they take root when used as a cutting,..you increase your chances when its a young rose cane that has not bloomed,..take a cutting around 12 inches long,..that will leave you 4 inches below the soil and 8 inches above,..in fact i would take two cuttings,..let me know the outcome.

    Hollyhocks showing promise.
