While helping a friend start a garden I stumbled across some pumpkin seeds. I know it's a little late to start planting from seeds but why not give it a try in my current vegetable garden! Any advice from experienced pumpkin growers? moderator's note: added a more descriptive title to topic
I would think it is too late to start them, but I don't know where you live, so that may not be the same as for me....That would make a difference on the advice you may receive from anyone here. Otherwise drop the seeds in the garden and let them grow. Just give them plenty of room to spread.
If you have 75-100 frost free days left in your growing season, then it would be a good experiment. If not, just save the seeds until next year and plant them in May. Then plant them like Carolyn suggested. Welcome to GardenStew by the way!
If you are in North Carolina or south, you may just pull it off. You can always throw an old blanket over them at night if there is a frost warning in November. I sa go for it and wow us!
Most of the southern states you would have time. Remember halloween is at the end of October and harvest can run later than that. So plant away !
Also when they start to form pumpkins. Water, water, and water some more. To get a decent size they need to be watered well every week. If you don't get enough rain. This year in many area's that has been a real struggle. Oh ya, and welcome to the Stew from Wisconsin. It's a great fun and friendly gardening community.
