I have one and would like to know how well they do in containers.

And does anyone know how to grow ROYAL POINCIANA from seed? I just bought one on ebay. I have one seed so I have one shot. And do they do well in containers?

Its beautiful tree! But my worry is I have one seed and it gets very big. It can rival most oak trees when its full grow, as you can see from that link.

Hey Pinkiered, all is not lost, its when you said that it grows as big as an oak tree that reminded me of option 2. I m not sure if you know of the art of Bonsai , which the Japanese have been practising over a thousand years. They grow all manner of plants and trees in small containers, its not as hard as it seems , it just requires root pruning and careful watering (not rocket science) I have some myself, on the 31dec 1999 my son and I collected oak and beech seeds in the local park and sowed them 1st jan2000 they are resticted in pots and at 5years are only 5 inches. For such a beautiful tree its well worth a try. Regards Bugs 8)

    Germinating Royal Poinsiana Seeds

to get the seed to germinate you must put the seed in hot water for about 2 minutes then add cold water to room temperature.Keep in water for 24 hrs then take the seed and cut 1/8 inch from the rounded end. Then file the edges slightly both sides and place in germination mix such as burpees etc.Should sprout in about 5 days.I have 18 trees growing in 7 gallon pots.

I've currently got 5 seedlings growing in my greenhouse, which I will transfer to my house for the winter. I don't have greenhouse heating. I got them to germinate simply by roughing up the outside with sandpaper for about 15 seconds and then soaking them overnight.
