This plant has been nurtured by my hubby Summer. We have no idea that it is and hopefully someone here can ID it. I think it would be if you found it was a weed. Can someone please help? Barb in Pa.

Is this 2 different plants Barb? My first thought was tree seedlings, but I need a closer photo of the leaves to make an ID.
It does look like two different plants, a close up of the leaves would be great. But the leaves at the bottom of the photo remind me of an Aralia spinosa
I think it's the same plant. Top and bottom. And sure looks like a weed. Those tiny green flowers doesn't make it an "ornamental" (IMO)
Barb, Can you get a closer pictuer of the flower part with some detail and of a leaf? are the leaves opposite or alternate?
Much better. Now, go crush the foliage and smell it for me...does it smell like chrysanthemuns? if so I think you have ....mugwort. It grows by/with a rhizome, but readily seeds, too I do believe. I have it and HATE it.
Barb, if it is the mugwort it is a weed. I have it growing everywhere. inside of a greenhouse, outside of the greenhouse, the hightunnel, the blueberry patch, the garden, etc.... :-x It is practically indestructible. Invasive is a great word, too. SO, if it is and you didn't plant it you might want to try eradicating it ASAP. It doesn't really have a flower, either.
Look at the roots on this baby..We cared for this plant from when it was a little seedling and now look, we ripped it out my it's roots. Barb in Pa.
Yep, It looks like the same root system in my garden. Horribly invasive and hard to eradicate. I have it all over the area where my blueberries are and it is impossible to get rid of. I finally put carpet down all around them to smother it. I see it is growing up through the holes for the blueberries now :-x .I was weeding the garden and hilling up the potatoes that I planted late and there was a terrible expanse od it growing right into the potato patch.UUUGGGHHHHH! You did well!!!!get rid of it!
I have fought Curly DOCK for years, but found this very effective: in fall, when plant's going into dormant stage/nutrients, etc. being absorbed into root system, I cut them down to about 2 inches in height. After that, I use a #10 can with top, bottom cut off; place that over remaining stems and DOUSE the devil out of them with weed killer! The can confines spray/stream from drifting in air, concentrates the product only on the stems, soil immediately around them; is absorbed into root system..as winter "food"..and irradicates the problem: they do not come back the following year! Otherwise, it'd be dig, dig, DIG to remove invasive weeds and, in a lot of cases with them, if you MISS any of their root systems, they'll come right back' If gardens only GREW as well as WEEDS, we'd all be happy campers (lol!).
