The birds are slowly leaving for southern climates. The robins are all gone now. During the summer I had 4 or 5 hummers coming to the feeder. Now I have just one female and I would imagine that she will be leaving any day. The pair of red headed woodpeckers have gone too. Or at least I think they have, haven't seen them in a week. They don't come up to the porch for peanuts anymore. Most of the bluejays have left too. We still have a couple, but I think they are year around residents. I love the fall and the change of colors, but will miss my friends until they come back in the spring.
Captain, we'll take good care of your friends until they return to you in the spring. We don't have robins yet, but the flycatchers are back, as are the first few ducks. We actually have ducks in September! They usually appear in November, but maybe with the drought up north, they are coming sooner. I think they were Whistlers, but I didn't have my binoculars with me, and I am (a trifle) nearsighted, so I don't want to swear to that.
I hate to see our summertime friends leaving. Fewer Hummer fights at the feeders and the calling of the chickadees....oh and the sounds of the locusts at night.....fall is coming quickly even if it IS 80 degrees with high humidity out there. I love the snowbirds but am never anxious to see them.
Our Swallows, Swifts and Martens are all gathering ready to leave until next year. I hate to see them go.
Our chickdees stay all year long. Them and the titmice are regular visitors at the feeder in the winter. Don't see many chickadees in the summer, they all stay in the underbrush.
Been making sure to clean hummer feeders all most daily. Watching about 8-9 right now. But soy bean are turning browner each day.This summer went by so fast.Bought many suet cakes when at Menards.Highs to be in low 60's this weekend
