Electric Lawnmower I have gone through quite a few gas mowers, pretty much annually! I didn't drain the gas each end of season and I didn't maintain them. The corded electric mower I have works great. Since I use it to mow my entire third of an acre property, I have a system worked out with electric plugs in the back shed as well. That takes care of reaching the back orchard. It's a bit annoying to work with the cord, but I can count on the thing year after year!
I have had an electric mower for 3 years now, we mow 4 yards a week thru the mowing season. I love it, once you figure out the cord throw it is a breeze.
When I was looking at the battery operated mowers, the average amount of time that the battery lasted was around an hour, hour and a half, give or take (said it was good for about 1/3 acre). Some of the mowers had a removable battery so that you could have a back-up battery recharging and ready to to go, if you need more time.
Thanks daisybeans - that's what I was wondering. Sounds like it would be rather large initial investment for us. We don't have outside electric here in WI either. Only one out building still has electric hooked up. Thinking I'll re-visit the idea when I need to replace a mower in the future.
I've had an electric mower in the past and liked it. I've also had a few reel mowers, which can work quite well for smaller lawns. If you are in shape. Right now I have so little grass that I "mow" it with an electric string trimmer.
Electric Mower Never had an electric mower...hubby has the Dixon for the yard and I have a battery operated one for my courtyard and trimming where I don't want him to cut!!!! He gets way to close to things!!
Mine is Bosch! Bosch ASM32F Cylinder Electric so far no issues about it. moderator's note: removed website link, see point 1.1 of usage rules
Yes, we have one as well. I'm not a fan of them though, just because the extension coord that gets in the way, so, we went out, bought a riding lawn tractor, as we do have 2 acres, We now have 3 riding lawn tractors, 1 of which I'm making into a racer.
Electric lawn mowers are a lot lighter and cleaner than other types of mowers. They need very little maintenance and are therefore perfect for people who may not have a lot of time. They are best suited to smaler types of lawn and are easy to use. You just need to plug it in and you're ready to go!
