Will Work for Garden Junk

I've been doing a few freelance jobs lately and the money as been "burning a hole in my pocket".
I started looking at some resale shops for some storage cabinets I want/need. I stopped at a place today that has antiques, collectibles, furniture and stuff. I did find a cabinet that might have worked, but it just wasn't what I was looking for.
But.... I did find these three items that I couldn't leave without... super heavy duty wire basket, an old wood & metal wheel and a nail keg.

You are so good at finding good junk. What I would bring home would be junk JUNK!!!!!

That basket would be good for my egg basket. That is great

...and of course, I know what you can do with the nail keg

The wheel is to beautiful to use with dirt. You should make an outside chandelier or something.

Eileen... If I do anything with the wheel, it would just be putting on some water seal to help it last longer. I've been wanting to get wagon wheel to put by the "trough fountain"... this is smaller, but it'll work.

Frank... Hmmmm... now that's a good idea! I bet I could make a sign and send some to all the junkers here too!

Netty... I almost didn't get the basket. I kept thinking... which do I want... basket or wheel? And then it hit me... I could have both!

And Barb... they did have some "real" egg baskets, but they wanted too much money for them and this one is much more "heavy" and I think will last longer out in the elements... with a plant in it of course.

The nail keg is a "one day I'm gonna need to replace the one I already have hiding the electrical box by the trough fountain".
I had a doozy of a time finding the first one, so when I saw this one, I knew it was coming home with me. I'll probably use it to hold some stuff in my storage building until it is needed outdoors.

They look great when placed in your garden. If I had the wheel I would paint it. It will last longer and it will be more beautiful but now it looks good too.

 

Nice stuff. Makes me want to go looking.

 

Cool stuff... I figured that wire basket was an antique egg basket ?

Local stores had some faux wine barrel halves this summer, but they wanted over $30 for el cheapos that were total TRASH. They were not worth 30 cents, much less $30. Looks like you got the real deal for yours.

Cherly, if that wire basket is not an antique, it is a darn good replica. Some replicas are just trashy, ya know?

Those half barrels the local dept store had were so flimsy, and the bottoms were thin plastic, and I don't think they would hold the 50 lbs or so of dirt they should have held for planters. The slats on them were barely held together with thin strips of something flimsy.. I would not have given 10 cents for any of them.

 

Are you talking about those half whiskey barrels? I had one years ago and it held up very nicely.
I have noticed some in the stores that seem to be falling apart as they sit there.
The one I got was a "nail keg". Much much smaller, but is perfect for I need it for.

 

the wheel I would have made a windchime to hang from a tree the basket a planter or outside lamp the keg oh my goodness so many thoughts on that you did real good

 

Donna... the basket will definitely be a planter. I thought about doing something like that with the wheel, but I think it would be too heavy for the lower branches of the two trees I have in my garden area.

 

Cheryl, these were faux whiskey barrels, not the good ones you can sometimes find. The faux ones were very flimsy and falling apart in the store. They would have never held any liquids at all. I guess on the other hand, whatever is planted in them will have very good drainage--if they do not fall apart first!
