The crown ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) Will be planting this soon.
A mighty big pineapple KK. I bet it will not last long. Lunchtime!! Enjoy Jerry P.S. Two years to grow a pineapple?
Hey you've made me wet my keyboard with all my drool!! I'd wait two years for a pineapple that big and fresh.
KK, it is amazing what you can (and do) grow! That pineapple is lovely, and I bet it tasted as good as it looked (notice I'm using the past tense because I'm sure it's all gone by now).
Sorry Cherylad, err ... did the pineapple you dream of is delicious? I dreamt that I sent some to you!!! Thanks Jerry, it is big and I still have a third for lunch today!!! Pineapples takes at least 14months to fruit. Sure Chocolate, I had already send some to you by DHL(Delivered Halfway Lost) Thanks Sojerd, it was a nervous wait for it to be fully rippened on the plant because of it's size. When it is fully rippened on the plant, it is sweet from head to toe!!! Yes Frank, I remembered that you did get to see the last one but you were a couple of weeks too early. Eileen I recommend you to get a water resistance keyboard It is indeed worth the wait!!! Thanks Marlingardener, it sure did taste real good but because of it's size we still have a third in the fridge waiting to be desert for lunch!!! Hmmm ... wonder how it would taste like with vanilla ice cream???? Barb, it's yummie yummie!!! Thanks Betsy Muse, yes the right climate is always important. :-D
Yesterday after I made a decision as to where the next pineapple plant is going to be, I quickly got the hoe out and started digging eventhough I was down with the weather. Planted Dec4th 2012 ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) It felt good to see the crown seated on its rightful place fo at least another 2 years
When you are trying to de terming ripeness, do you tug on some of the small, very top leaves to see if the come-away easily?
Nope, I just look at the yellowness and consult with Becky. It is nerve wrecking to wait for the perfect timing. Pineapple that ripe on the plant is always sweet which is something we can never get commercially.
Beautiful pineapple! I am delighted to see that planting a pineapple crown actually does eventually produce delicious fruit. My daughter started one about 4 months ago. It is doing well, but we will see how it does over the winter. Hopefully it will be okay here in zone 9b-10a.
