Does Cloudy or Cold Weather Keep You Indoors?

Do you stay indoors on a cloudy or not so nice day and save the gardening chores for later ? Sjoerd's comments made me think of that.

If it is really terrible, like thunderstorms or blizzards, yeah, I will stay indoors by the fire and do other things. But if it is just cloudy and drippy and windy outdoors, and not too bad, I am out there working on things over the winter. My yard is around 3 acres, so there is always something needing done, no matter what the weather is doing. I don't think I need the men in white suits with butterfly nets though... ;) I rather like days like that. It is not too hot and miserable, and when I am done the nice warm fire feels pretty good. Winter is my favorite time of year.

If it is hot and very miserable out there, that will keep me indoors in front of the fans and whatever AC we might have, at least during the hottest parts of the day.

I am glad to here that there is at least one other person that works outside in inclimate weather.
Here where I live though, it is more of a necessity as anything else. We have a lot of moisture here. Moisture and wind off the sea. So basically if its not pouring--its gardening weather for me.
I don't like too much heat, so during the summer I time my working to mornings and late afternoons...except when it comes to working with the bees--that could be a necessity at any time.

We have no choice--no matter what the weather is like, the chickens and bees need tending. In cold weather I bundle up and tuck the hens in for the night with a heat lamp and scratch (which warms them as they digest it). I trundle out in the morning to give them their feed, open the outside coop, and check their water supply. In warm weather we turn on the coop fan, put ice in the water supply, and make sure the shade cloth covers half the outside coop. The bees need to be checked every two weeks or so in winter to make sure they have adequate food supplies. In summer, we make sure the predator guards are in place and that the hive tops have the spacers in place to allow air circulation.
Of course, there is the hurried last picking of tomatoes and peppers before the freeze; covering the cuttings on the barn shelf when the weather turns cold; and trying to keep everything in place when the Texas winds blow!

Like Jane, I must go out to tend to the chickens and the bunnies. take the dog out and go to the mailbox, take a gander at the greenhouses and check on the little greenhouse, watering the plants and seedlings. Other than that I tend to stay inside I get such cold fingers when I am outside...But I did read a page on cayenne pepper yesterday and it is good for raynauds syndrome so I thought I would try it for my fingers, too. I made a grape, honey, lemon and cayenne pepper drink (mostly for my respiratory issue), in a blender, last night and my fingers were roasting at the dinner table...INCREDIBLE. So maybe I will start going out more.

Once upon a time I went outside in all kinds of weather. Now that I'm "old" I tend to just go out in weather that's warmer and not so wet. My creaky knees don't like damp too well or cold. But, if the sun is shining and it's not too windy I go out and do things. Lots to be done.

I have to go outside every day, weather permitting. Even if it's only to walk around. When I have things to do outside I'm at my best. Inside is when ever I get around to it. My house is upside down from all the company,( they left this morning) and I spent the afternoon planning and mapping out my garden. A most enjoyable and relaxing afternoon.

Living in Scotland if you don't garden when it's wet then nothing would ever get done. :D If it's blowing a gale or torrential rin then we do stay indoors but other than that we're outside every day.

Sjoerd my crocus and daffs are well out of the ground already and it looks like the snowdrops wil soon be flowering.

I have iris's out of the ground but not ready to bloom yet. Toni sent them to me a couple of years ago. I think I will need to divide them after they bloom this year.

If it's comfortably cold and not windy I will be outside. Windy cool/cold days give me a sinus headache...gardening isn't worth going through that for a few hours.
A cloudy day is my favorite gardening day, no sun to contend with and cloudy days are best for taking photos of the plants too.

I don't do any gardening when the temperature is above about 75, I get overheated and sick with a migraine if I do.

My Snowflakes are coming up but not the Snowdrops yet.
Dooley, those Iris start coming up in about October but don't bloom until Feb or March depending on when warm weather arrives.

When it is cold like it is here I do not go out unless I have appointment! I like to hibernate. Before hubby retired I used to carry in all the firewood every day.
I am very afraid of falling. There is ice under snow all over.

I really dont like cold/drippy weather, plus theres really nothing to do in my garden in the winter, so I just stay inside, try to keep my plants that that are inside because they didnt get in the ground watered, and plan for the next growing season :)

It is cold with rain/sleet/snow here today. I probably will only go out to take care of my animals and firewood mostly. I have things indoors that need done.
