Had a small bit of wood so I drilled a couple of holes in it. I added a bit of bark for a roof. I filled the holes with a suet mix and hung it up. In minutes I had a wren, chickadees and this nuthatch playing turns.

The birds' secret is out, you have permanent residents in nearby trees just waiting for the next yummy installment. Great pictures, you are the envy of a lot of wildlife photographers. We benefit with every photograph, as do the birds with every morsel.

I usually have a place for the birds to land near the food source. This is the nuthatch on one of the branches.

Great idea Kildale, a more natural bird feeder :)

I tried something similar Kildale. It didn't attract a Nuthatch, as they aren't found in Scotland, BUT it did encourage a Treecreeper to come calling. :-D

I think its so much fun setting things up. Most of the time the birds are there in minutes. Having a lot of rain forests around and the stuff washed up on the beach I get a lot of wood to play with. Its strange really, but I think of a piece of wood that would work well and then I go and look for it. Neat really.
