Had a small bit of wood so I drilled a couple of holes in it. I added a bit of bark for a roof. I filled the holes with a suet mix and hung it up. In minutes I had a wren, chickadees and this nuthatch playing turns. ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden )
The birds' secret is out, you have permanent residents in nearby trees just waiting for the next yummy installment. Great pictures, you are the envy of a lot of wildlife photographers. We benefit with every photograph, as do the birds with every morsel. Jerry
I usually have a place for the birds to land near the food source. This is the nuthatch on one of the branches. Nuthatch ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden )
I tried something similar Kildale. It didn't attract a Nuthatch, as they aren't found in Scotland, BUT it did encourage a Treecreeper to come calling. :-D
I think its so much fun setting things up. Most of the time the birds are there in minutes. Having a lot of rain forests around and the stuff washed up on the beach I get a lot of wood to play with. Its strange really, but I think of a piece of wood that would work well and then I go and look for it. Neat really.
