When I took down the Christmas decorations, I decided to recycle the live wreath from the front door.

After stripping the wreath of deorations, I coated some pinecones with suet, peanutbutter and birdseed and wired them on. I picked some nandina berries and stuck them in and then added a small container with birdseed. I hung it from my dogwood tree with the suet basket in the middle. It didn't take long before the birds came calling.

Great idea, I think I have to buy a real wreath next year just for the birds.

Gail, we did the same thing, but with our Christmas tree. I smeared peanut butter on crackers, and hung small containers (butter tubs with holes poked in two sides with string for hanging), and strung popcorn on the tree. The peanut crackers went first, and other than a few shreds of popcorn left, everything was eaten up. Now the tree is providing shelter from the rain--I counted four white-crowned sparrows in it.
Not nearly as pretty as your wreath, but useful all the same!

Thanks Toni and Jane. When we had a real tree we use to leave it out over the winter for the birds, didn't think about putting treats in the tree :D

I wonder if the bluebirds appreciate the effort you put into providing an attractive feeding spot for them Gail :D Great re-use of a pretty item.

Now that's one of the best recycling ideas I've seen. I'm so glad the birds are enjoying their new feeding place. The Blurbird looks as though it's posing just for you. :-D

Thanks Cheryl, Frank and Eileen. I did use a similar photo for my Christmas Card this year, I think I posted it in Dec...but it was an artifical wreath. I use it as a bribe so I can get a good photo ;)

Another fantastic idea to copy! Yours is awe inspiring. Makes me want to go out and make a wreathe to feed the birds in.

Thanks Carolyn and Jewell, I was inspired by the photos that Kildale posts with his birds in a wreath.
