Folks, if you can lure Dooley and DR to your house, do so! They are delightful guests, full of great stories, and up for almost anything (even petting chickens). I'll let Dooley tell you the details--I have to go put on a brand new, gorgeous kitchen apron and fix dinner. Tomorrow I'll put on my brand new, gorgeous garden apron and do some outdoor work while my husband wears his brand new, gorgeous woodworking apron while in his workshop. And did I mention we now have a lovely striped carry bag? I'll be the envy of the grocery store and the library! I feel guilty for taking advantage of Dooley's generosity, but I ain't givin' the aprons back!
I just knew you'd all get along!! Dooley and DR have hearts of pure gold don't they? If all the world were like them then it would be a far better place. I'm so glad you enjoyed your visit together.
Chicken petting? I did not know chickens liked to be petted. I will eagerly await Dooly's posting. Did anyone take pictures? It must have been a fantastic day. Jerry
Pictures? Oh, we were supposed to take pictures! I think we were too busy talking, talking, talking to remember we were supposed to take pictures. I remember taking one of the chickens and dr said he took a couple when I let him hold the camera while I petted the chickens and fed them oyster crackers. Beautiful black chickens, they were. Lunch was very good, quiche and broccoli salad and fresh fruit salad with honey/lemon dressing. We even brought some home for lunch tomorrow. We came home with a truck load of mesquite wood and 12 tomato seedlings and two scarlet runner bean plants. I think we got our aprons worth in trade. I, also, think that Jane and I never shut our mouths the whole three and a half hours. We toured their gardens and other buildings and I admired her yard and herbs and bushes. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I'm sure dr did the same. Lots of laughter and good times. Jane and I both were children's librarians and dr and Walt were both engineers. So much, we have in common. They have a beautiful house and gardens and I am so envious. I'll have to double my efforts in my yard and get rid of all those pesky weeds and scrubby brush. Like Jane said though, all it takes is time. I'll add ambition and stamina. We had a wonderful day and I hope all of you Stewers had one too. dooley

I don't think three and a half hours gave you enough time together so you'll just have to meet up again. There are many times that I wish Scotland wasn't so far away from you all but maybe it's a blessing in disguise as I wouldn't be able to let you go in under say - three and a half months!! Even then we'd still be blethering I'm sure.
Eileen, we have a lot to say here on Gardenstew, too. It's good that Frank gave us a village square to do it. Any time you want to talk, just let me know and we can fill up the whole page or maybe two or three. dooley

Hello MG--well, You guys sure had a great time. That is plain to see. You got examples of her full line of apparel by the sounds of it. I'll bet that you wear them all the time from now on. Those gifts were awfully nice (and very useful) but I can imagine that the conversation was the real high point. So nice that you could get to meet her and her man.
