Some of my Favorite Flowers--What are Yours?

Over the years, there is always a flower that makes it to my favorites list and then another one and then another one. Seems to never end. Just remember..a garden is never finished! It undergoes constant change and analyzation.

Some of my favorites are:
Veronicastrum- Great size and great display of blooms.

Alchemelia Mollis- Like when a water drop sits in the center of a leaf, looks like a diamond.

Filipendula--The white is so pure and stunning.

Epimedium--Love the tiny almost insignificant flowers but really love how the foilage changes to a mahogany color.

Cimicifugia- Awesome blooms and love the dark stems.

Thalictrum- Taller varieties of this meadow rue--cool little airy flowers with lavender hues.

Jap.Toad Lily--Awesome mini lily.

Gentiana--The gem of the rock garden! Love the cobalt blue.

Delosperma- Massive amounts flowers if soil is top dressed with a balanced fert. and regular liquid feed. Rock garden show piece.

Aconitum--Cool looking, that;s all I can say. Surprisingly have grown these in full sun with awesome results.

Anagalis--Best blue annual flower I've seen

Anchusa--Awesome bright blue biennial.

Ligularia--Cool shade plant with yellow

Delphiniums--Blue bird ahh the elegance

and whole lot more!

What are your favorites and why?

 

Well, kind of depends on what is in season! In the spring I love love love lilacs and tall bearded iris.
Then when summer arrives I can't get enough of the deep red geraniums. I'm developing a love affair with the hostas. Oh and the peonies! I almost forgot the peonies!

 

Daylilies from seed, I never know what the flower will look like the first time it blooms.

Peony and Lilac's, are my favorite Delphinium, Foxglove, Clematis
and I really liked my Blue Oat Grass last year. Every year I find another plant I love

 

i love roses all kind of roses i love them.

 

I have had a love affair with daylilies & have a huge collection.But because of possible climate change & drought I am going to edit a lot these water hogs.I'm leaning toward the annuals now.I love zinnias,petunias & coleus.I'm leaning toward container plants now.I think the time is ripe for a smaller intimate garden that can be more easily watered.I can't imagine the place without peonies & iris,though.

I love flowers that smell good! Lilacs, roses, dianthus, lilies, etc

 

My favourites are rhododendron, philadelphus, hawthorn !!

 

Bottle nosed gentian. Blooms when most other perennials are petering out. Lovely blue color. Very subtle. Glossy green leaves throughout the summer. Indestructible. Slowly increases through self-sowing but never invasive.

My mother found it growing in a meadow on their farm in western NY state & brought it to me 25 years ago. The flowers never fully open and if you watch carefully you can see bees fighting to gain entry, wagging their little butts as they do so.

I have too many favorites to list! (they are all my favs)
Like Cheryl, it does depend on the season. The annuals give us the great colors, and the perennials give us all the unique flowers.
Right now, I'm thinking ROSES They are beautiful, and smell so nice!

 

I used to like Roses too. That is until I worked for one fellow many years ago who was the largest rose dealer for the state at that time. Needless to say, after cutting back hundreds and hundreds, propagating, etc, I soon got sick of roses. My hands hated them too, gloves really didnt do much other than get in the way.

 

Hey KPD _ I could tell ya some rose pruning stories, yes I could; about Rose thorns... but I think I am loving the beautiful flowers...

 

I love many -Day lily like to find more room for more.But Kiss Me Over Garden Gate. Most asked about when people come here.

 

KK Guess I should get seeds for Kiss Me Over Garden Gate. Can't believe I haven"t grown it yet.
Seems like my fav is the one I happen to be looking at LOL

those Gentians are great..sometimes called bottle Gentian as well.
