There was an article recently in the newspaper about chefs objecting to having diners photograph their food. The chefs felt it was a distraction to the other diners, and some even offered to bring the shutterbugs back to the kitchen to take photos there, rather than using their flashes in the dining area. Now frankly, when presented with a well-cooked, attractive plate of food, I want to grab my fork, not my camera. I have photographed food for our newsletter, but only in my own kitchen or dining room, and with no guests present. What do you think about photographing food in a restaurant? Would you do it?
Yelp, Urbanspoon, Travel Advisor for a few have ratings of restaurants, motels, and everything else under the sun. People submit their reviews and photos. When traveling I've used these apps to pick dining options and been pleased to get away from the usual fast fare to get some 'real' food. This is the only time I have taken photos of meals. Felt like I needed to return the favor of using such helpful sites.
I have, and will continue to take a photo of my meal at a restaurant... but it's only for "work". My newspaper has a spot to feature a local restaurant. So we've all been instructed... whenever you go out to eat, take a photo and jot down the pertinent info about the dish. The local businesses really appreciate the free advertising.
Yes we do that all the time especially when we go to a new place but without the flash. Most digital cameras do not need flash to take good pictures in poorly lit areas. We take photos because sometimes we forget what we had!!!
Jane, I thought maybe you were going to ask about meals such as deer or my broiler project....ummm, no, I don't take photos of dinner, alive, dead or cooked.
I will take pictures of the food layout at meetings and special events. I usually take pictures at these happenings anyway but as for a sit-down meal. No. Jerry
People take photos of EVERYTHING these days thanks to cell phones and apps like 'Instagram'. Digital cameras don't need a flash to make nice photos most of the time. I don't take photos at restaurants, but then I rarely GO to restaurants!
I'll admit to doing this a lot when I was in Asia BUT only because I wanted to look back at the photos in a few years and remember the taste of the amazing food
If I was to find a worm or other bug then I would take a photo. But generally the places we go out to are places we've been going to for years so there really isn't any need when you order the same thing every time. And I'm with you Jane, I just want to grab my fork and eat not take a photo of it.
Of course I would take photos of my dinner. For example, I'm hoping my boyfriend (hopefully he sees this) takes me somewhere nice for a Valentine's Day dinner, or at least cook for me. Things like that are memories that I want to keep, so I usually take a picture to remember what I had. I know it sounds kind of corny but hey, I'm a sentimental girl. I think it would be ridiculous if they told you you could not take photos at a restaurant.
Once in a while I take pictures of the meal I am having while out somewhere but I do take pictures of my meals almost every night that I cook at home. I share them with one of my little friends here in town. holiday meal 2012 spaghetti sauce lobster stock Will be on the stove till tomorrow morning.
