What a good idea Kildale. I'm sure many of our members will try this out on their hummingbird feeders.

    Another excellent tip.
I'm curious though. I have problems with wasps around the feeders. Do you think they'd be tempted to make themselves at home between the two pieces?

I wouldn't think they would. You can always stuff some material up between the two. Just a ring around the lower edge, foamy material like a sponge.

Sponge... good idea. That would aide with the insulation too, correct?

    Ants

Does anyone have a suggestion for ridding hummingbird feeders of ants? I suppose if one searched, they could find a bottle like the one used for this insulating cover with a ring around the top and make a moat.

mango, for ants, i've just put a bit of grease on the area they are travelling on. they won't walk on it. butter can be used also, or vaseline. also, a sprig of Rue will deter them.

    great idea kildale!

Thanks for all suggestions. I have tried vaseline, grease, and a hanger made with fishing line coated with anything tacky or greasy. Nothing worked. I do think the moat will work. :-D

For the wasps, move the feeder a few feet if you can, the wasps think it has gone forever, while the hummers are brighter and go to it.
