What is it about cardboard boxes? Cats love them and so do children. I have photographs of when my daughter was young and she's inside a carboard box. Our Great Dane used to sleep in an old hoover box even although she had, in my opinion, a much comfier one with a blanket in it.
A box provides tactile feedback for the occupant that represents the security of a tight place. Children and cats, yes, the dog is a bit of a mystery unless it is a puppy. Jerry
