Hi Carolyn, the amount of rose bushes i have vary from time to time,..last week i had 26 rose bushes,..25 of those bloomed but one was a Zombie,..never flowered nor never would,..it would grow roots just like a Briar,..so you could say it reverted back to its roots, . I killed off the Zombie and boy did it have roots,..going in every direction,..then gave away 5 rose bushes for swaps of a Camellia,..and an Aster,..plus some others with no names,..as yet,..i have to wait until they flower,..so i am left with 20 rose bushes today,..lots of extra pictures in the link below. September wave of blooms before winter sets in,..there will be more blooms of course but not as abundant as at present. Video===The Last Wave. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden )
Hi Carolyn, it looks more like a Carnation than what i was expecting from a Hollyhock,..this plant is now at 7 ft 4 inches high. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden )
Hi Cayuga Morning, yes similar to the Poppy as well,..i was surprised as the other Pink Hollyhocks were attractive enough but a lighter pink and not the same shape. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden )
Philip, Cayuga Morn mentioned tissue paper flowers...That was what I was thinking this morning...we made tissue paper flowers in art class as a kid that is exactly what this one reminded me of . It is beautiful, though. That is getting tall, too. Do you have it staked? I have never grown these, they seem like a little too much work for me. The foliage on all of them I see around here always looks horrible. Not the kind of thing you think contributes to the appeal of the garden. Do you need to do much to keep the foliage nice?
Philip your roses are amazing. All of your blooms are beautiful.I hope Hudson lives a lot longer and is healthyup until she passes to that rainbow road.Your dogs are so pretty.
Hi Cayuga Morning, you hit the nail on the head,..Crepe Paper,..i knew those blooms reminded me of something made of paper,..i just couldn't put a name to it,..nice one. ==================================================== Hi Cheryl, thanks,..but you sure have some fantastic blooms posted of late,.. . ==================================================== Hi Carolyn, there are six Hollyhocks,..two had double stems which was a bonus,..and three will probably not bloom until next summer,..the tall one as i mentioned is at 7 ft 4 inches and still has room to grow,..it should make 8 ft,..it was only supported with bamboo yesterday due to our 70 mph winds and heavy rain,..but no damage done. I have seen Hollyhocks that looked bad due to rust on the leaves,..luckily mine were healthy looking up to this week,..however its coming close to the end of season for them here so they are getting a tad scruffy but are still looking fairly well and big ,..i use the same homemade spray to protect the Hollyhock leaves,..Foxgloves,..Verbascum and the Roses. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) ================================================== Hi Theodoros, thank you,..collecting seeds is a problem as its so damp here,..rain,rain and more rain. ================================================== Hi Glenda, glad you like all the blooms,..Hudson is doing well considering her being deaf and almost blind at this stage,..nothing wrong with her appetite i must say. Trying to catch up after being AWOL,..at last i covered blooms in my garden from October to December,..seeing we just had St Patrick's Day i added Celtic Music in the background. The first scenes are taken from my front door. Video===Blooms From October to December. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden )
Philip I can hardly believe that all those gorgeous flowers were around from October to December. Such a riot of colour and so many varieties. To say I'm turning a nice shade of pea green is no exaggeration. Many thanks for sharing this video with us. Now all I want is for spring to arrive so that I can have some colour in the garden apart from white.
