We are shopping for a new entry door. Right now we have wood core (i think) steel door that has to be replaced. We have priced some Pella doors (because they are beautiful), but they are very expensive. Jeld wen and some other brands appear to be less expensive, but are they as good of a product? Just wondering if anyone has any advice on this one.
Jeld Wen does produce a good product. I've installed a few of them in houses I built or worked on. Pella is a way over priced product IMO.
entry doors thanks so much for the input. since you know a little something about this, maybe you can help me with my next question... we have a storm door on our house that we want to keep. is it possible to replace the entry door and keep the storm door that we have? any input at all would help...the people at lowes don't seem to be very helpful. thanks so much!!
well there's 2 types of storm doors. 1 is attached to the moulding of the door. If this is the kind you have and the moulding on your new door is the same than yes you can reuse it. The other kind is attached to the jam surrounding your door, this one can also be reused as long as the new entry door is the same size as the old one. Just be careful when removing the storm door. The frames can be a bit tricky to put back on if they get tweaked or damaged. Hope that helps you. Most people at the big box home stores really don't know too much. But there are a few that are good at their job.
According to me you should go for some kind of stylish and elegant looking doors this will give unique look to your new entry.
Yes picking out a front door can be a mind boggling situation with all the choices out there. We have an older home that also has a storm door on the front with an insulated metal door with a window in it. We bought an insulated storm door that has a magnetic seal that seals tighter when the wind blows on it. It faces west, and this next winter will be the real test. The brand is a Larson and I love the look. It also has a self storing half screen in the top part of the door.
