My mother's garden is warmer and has more sun than mine. Her hellebores have started blooming. I'd like to show you a few from her collection: Helleborus Double white with red spots ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) Helleborus double red ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) Helleborus niger ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) Helleborus red ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) I went to the florist's to get some cut daffs and tulips for our living room and discovered these two sitting on a table. I just had to bring them home with me. I don't know when I'll be able to plant them but they seem to like it on our veranda: Helleborus yellow-green with red spots/stripes ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) Helleborus white with lots of red inside ( photo / image / picture from Droopy's Garden ) The only thing we've got aplenty are snowdrops. The hellebores are beautiful and what a lovely colourful collection. That's a lovely clump of snowdrops too.
That does it I've just GOT to have white hellebores to add to my collection. What a lovely variety of colours your mum has Droopy. We have snowdrops in our garden too at the moment even although they're a bit flattened by all the snow we've been having they're still a very welcome sight.
Thanks for liking our hellebores. There will be lots more to show later IF they've survived the strange winter we've had. I know for certain I've lost one since it's always been so early. I worry about a few others.
The only problem our Hellebores have had with the weather has been from being trodden on when they were hidden beneath the snow. Most of them have stood upright again now some of the white stuff has gonned.
Helleborus galorus! What a wonderful group of fotos. I liked the one of the snowbells as well. I like the single ones best. They all look quite healthy and none the worse for the weather. Things are beginning to roll there. Let's hope that the weather soon warms up.

Lovely Hellebore's Droopy! I don't have any, but Hellebore's were THE plant from the Toronto Blooms show last week and I was admiring them there too. They told me if I could grow Hosta I could grow Hellebore's too. Ya'll know how much I love my Hosta's so I think this is the year to add some Hellebore's
Netty your post encourages me!!! I too love my hostas!! :-D I'm dieing to try hellebores! I'm assuming they are shade plants and can be planted right along with the hostas?? All of the hellebore pics this spring have made me envious
We went to a Plant Hunters Fair today and every Nursery almost, had Hellebores for sale. All of them were far too expensive for us, but it did not matter we could not find one which was different to the ones we already have. Hellebores like a woodland area, that is dappled shade and well drained soil.Which is why we have self seeded ones growing happily in our full sun, wind blown gravel garden.
