I have these large black ants living in amongst the little rocks in my garden beds that surround my coconut & queen palm trees.

Anything I can buy to kill the black ants and not kill my palm trees?

    Thanks,
    Scotty13

I keep Ortho Fire Ant Killer on hand for all types of ants. The workers take it down into the mound where they feed on it and die. Nothing in it will hurt plants especially since you sprinkle it on the mound and not spray it in the air.

Thanks, but its not a mound. I have stone that surrounds the trees and the live under the rocks. I'll try it anyway. Thanks again, S

I use it on any congregation of ants...mound, trail or just a bunch running helter-skelter when I pick up a flower pot or rock. It will work any old which way. ;)

I ran out of ant treatment the other day. UGH! I hate the little monsters! You'll just have to keep applying it because sometimes it won't kill the mound/bed/colony... it'll just make them pack their bags and move.
There's nothing worse than playing in a flower bed and suddenly realize your hand is covered in a zillion little demons, whom in these parts are known as fire ants.

I have lost count of how many different kinds of ants my yard is home to....Fire Ants, Carpenter ants (big black ants), sugar ants (the little brown ones that love to eat in your kitchen) and a good sized brown ant that gets in the bathroom sometimes.
But the Fire Ant killer works on all of them. But I use a mix or boric acid and jelly for the ones in the house more than the outdoor stuff.

Thanks for all your help. I'll give Ortho a shot and get those ants packing to my neighbor’s garden.

If there's no "good plants" nearby, boiling water can take care of some of them. Pour slowly, steadily, so it sinks deeply. Kills millions instantly.
