    It really depends on a lot of variables, but generally you want to go with either Metal halide (MH), high pressure sodium (HPS), or even some type of florescent lamp. The wattage and estimated area of coverage varies depending on your specific situation.

    Use this guide for a general reference, it convert the watt output of most grow lights to square foot coverage.
    100 watts = 2 x 2
    250 watts = 3 x 3
    400 watts = 4 x 4
    600 watts = 5 x 5
    1000 watts 6 x 6
