Sammy's been barking and acting weird all morning. I finally spotted his new buddy who he was playing with up at the barn...he brought him down to the cabin! They're playing 'you catch me, no you catch me, no you catch me....'!
How very cute. So nice that you could get pictures of it. They are usually gone by the time I get my camera.
Just a little while ago, Sammy was out in the orchard barking at something. We went out and saw he was barking at his deer...the mom deer. I couldn't get any close ups because I can't figure out this new camera distance dealy thing. Anyway, the mom deer was pacing back and forth, and Sammy was keeping his distance but barking furiously. All of a sudden, I saw something small by her. It was a baby! She must've just dropped it. It crawled beside her as she moved back and forth. Finally it got up on it's feet and moved around with the mom, really slowly. The mom kept moving away from it till it started moving faster. Finally, they crossed the creek and ran up the hill...(most of the pics, the mom, baby and sam are in the center, between the trees...I just put up links cause the pics are large. Pete playing/posing in the old dryer... June Moon... Scapes...readying to pickle and ferment... Had to harvest the garlic eaarlier than usual due to more rain coming in and Mr. Mole wreaking havoc in the patch. The bulbs are smaller than usual, but should be mighty tastey. Spent a rainy morning on the porch setting them out to dry...(for some strange reason, the pics here are tilted to the left and are showing them sideways?!)...
Was Sammy playing catch with a deer? I'd think he would want to eat it. Pete's such a pretty cat and certainly knows how to strike a pose. We also had a very big moon last night, and for once we had no clouds so we could see it.
Hey Droopy! Sammy is actually a bit afraid of the deer, which is a good thing, cause they get big and could hurt him. But they like to play with him, and tease him. So funny to watch! This moon really was big for several nights. Really bright! We've been in the 90's for over 12 days now. Wicked hot! The gardens are pretty much just sitting there, sweltering. The nimals too. Making lots of ice cubes for all! We still have two girl ducks sitting on one nest. Every time I'd mark an egg to keep track of them, they'd shove the marked egg out of the nest. So we have given up on that. So far we've had one dead baby that seemed to have it's shell broken before it was ready to hatch. We have another girl thinking she's gonna be a mom too, but we think it's too late to start a family this year as they wouldn't be old enough to survive the cold when it comes. Pics at eleven!
Wacky weather Bunkie... We had no rain in May, we had rain for 16 days straight then we had it in the 90's for a week or two now it is hardly above 50 at night time (huh? 50's in JULY?) it does make for nice sleeping weather since I love to have the window open but it is slowing everything down for ripening if the 90's didn't kill it. I didn't pick any tomatoes in the greenhouse for 3 straight days this week. Almost all the zucchini's and cucumbers keeled over or quit producing in this weather. I sure hope it cools off for you soon, though. Those temperatures are brutal on the plants and animals and people, especially when not used to them.
