My squash was planted 5-6 weeks ago. They look very puny compared to the other veggies in my garden. What's wrong?
This is my first post and I don't see my pic attached. Could it be I'm using a mobile? If you can't see the picture my problem is the plants are not growing as fast as everything else and the shade of green is not vibrant. They have more of a yellow hue.
Hi, and a warm welcome to GardenStew! You'll really like it here and meet lots of friendly helpful gardeners. About the photos--just above where you posted your introduction, there is a "Garden Starter Pack", and #10 tells how to upload photos. Very easy (easiest photo loading of any forum I've ever been on!) and we do love photos! The squash--have you fertilized them? A boost of 5-10-5 might help. Why not post a photo and description of the problem on the Vegetable Gardening forum. I bet you get a lot of good answers!
Usually yellow leaves are either too dry, too wet. or too much shade. But a shot of fertilizer won`t hurt.
Hi and welcome from a distant very hot and now polluted also land. I am with Mart and if you do not want to make use of fertilizer, then just add more compost to it an not forgetting the dry, wet and shade thingie. I also plant squash with compost as the nutrient only and they did well.
Mrs Bennefield, My yellow squash looks just as you described, and they're planted mostly in mulch with a little rich garden soil. Also, in a rather shaded area. I guess we need to plant them in more sun?
Hi Mrs Bennefield, and welcome to garden stew. Did you buy them in nursery pots ? If you did, the roots need to be spread out before you put them in the ground, or they won't make it. I didnt listen to someone a few years ago, and every plant that I planted without doing that died. If you forgot/didnt know, perhaps you can gently pull/dig them out and do it now? The ones in pots at the local plant place are like that because they have been potbound too long. I hope you can rescue your squash plants and get lots of squash to eat.
