My friend wants to know and I don't have an answer. We don't want to eat anything that will make us sick. Can anyone help us?
Welcome from coastal NC, riragirl. It's fun to forage food from nature, isn't it? You'll like reading Biita's posts on that.
I just happened upon this post, and being raised in South Carolina, I'm familiar with wild onions. A word of advice. Never drink milk from a cow that ate wild onions. LOL The milk tastes AWFUL!
When I was a kid, I used to pull wild onions and give em to my dad and after rinsing them, he would eat em right then I liked chewing on the foliage too (Id spit it out after the taste was gone).
Ooh, you lucky people over there in The States - we have wild garlic in the UK, which is fine, and gives woodlands a great smell in the Spring, but wild onions sound much more useful.
