My friend wants to know and I don't have an answer. We don't want to eat anything that will make us sick. Can anyone help us?

Yes wild onions are edible and they are said to have a much stronger taste than 'normal' onions. :stew1:

I love to cook with them. They have a much stronger smell but the taste is very good.

Welcome from coastal NC, riragirl. It's fun to forage food from nature, isn't it? You'll like reading Biita's posts on that.

I just happened upon this post, and being raised in South Carolina, I'm familiar with wild onions. A word of advice. Never drink milk from a cow that ate wild onions. LOL The milk tastes AWFUL!

When I was a kid, I used to pull wild onions and give em to my dad and after rinsing them, he would eat em right then :) I liked chewing on the foliage too (Id spit it out after the taste was gone).

Yes wild onions are edible. As many have said above, they do have a much stronger smell.

Ooh, you lucky people over there in The States - we have wild garlic in the UK, which is fine, and gives woodlands a great smell in the Spring, but wild onions sound much more useful.
