I bought myself a pitcher plant!

There's a few pesky flies around my plants so hopefully they'll be lured into the trap. Mwahahahaha!

Oh boy what a beauty!! I love Carnivorous plants and have recently bought myself two Voodoo lilies. When they 'flower' they have the most awful smell - like rotting meat - but they do attract lots of bugs. Long may they go on digesting them. :-D

This is my first pitcher plant waretop. I have my care sheet to hand! It should be quite easy as long as I keep it's water tray topped up with rain water.

I Did have a sundew last year but it didn't recover well after winter. I think I neglected it a bit to be honest and let it dry out by accident a few times. Whoops!

Eileen I love voodoo lillies! Don't really have the climate for them in the UK unfortunately.

I think the biggest reason for loss of these kind of plants is lack of watering. I have had the same little pot of Sundews for about 10 years now. They are in a little teapot and keep reproducing on and on. They don't take any extra care except that water...... I have a hole in the bottom of the teapot and I sit it on a rock along the edge of the pond next to the greenhouse in the Summer and then, of course, they go in for the Winter.

Yeah I need to keep 3cm of water in it's water tray at all times ideally in the summer. In the winter it needs a cool place like the porch. But it only needs to be kept damp, with no water tray. Apparently this species will tolerate frost! So they are quite hardy, but like you say, without the vital water the die pretty quickly.

Quite the opposite to all of my other plants!

Oh a cool one. And it never occured to me this could be an "easy and ecological" solution to my tiny-fly infestation...

It's gorgeous. I'd probably lose my job because I'd want to stay home and watch it eat flies! :D
