We have had more rain this summer than normal. We have been getting rain at least twice a week. Very few deer flies and almost no horseflies. But we do have more than our share of mosquitos. I disconnected my water barrels from the downspouts the other day. They are full to the brim and I have only used them a couple of times back in June. Normally August is hot and dry here, but not this year. We have been cooler than normal and wetter than normal.
The rain gauge has been filling up more than usual this summer. Many years ago, I seem to remember a lot of days when I could not go out and play, too much rain. Late '40s early '50s, or is my memory playing tricks. How do we define usual? Jerry
Strange as it may seem we've been having far lessrain here in Scotland than in past years. We still managed to get enough to keep the garden looking lush and green though.
Seems to me this is a wetter year here too. But that would be typical because I just got my rain barrels put in!

Yeah we have had too much rain here. Our lake is overflowing and they have been releasing it into the rivers. Very hot humid and yes weird summer here too.
It has been wet and COLD here for the last MONTH. I think yesterday was the highest it has been for a day temp over 80 ( I think it got to 83f). Tomorrow night it is supposed to drop to 49....But every night has been on the cool to cold side. in the 50's to maybe a 60's here and there. last night was 65. We had to put a blanket back on the bed it has been so cool. Everyone's tomatoes are looking really bad as the blight has hit really hard with the cold damp nights. The tomatoes are pretty much still green on most of the plants around here. Lots of rain this year for us as well. It is reported that for the month of July that the rain fall exceeded that of which we would have for the entire summer! We are getting rain that comes down in heavy torrents now, not at all like we used to get in nice even showers. Has not been a great summer for gardens. Lost my squash and watermelon to blight. Everything else is holding up so far.
I was going to start a post about this very thing! I don't EVER remember having a summer as wet as this in all the time I've lived in Nashville....and I moved here in 1994. I've checked with a few of the locals I know, and they concur. One oldtimer said the last time he remembered this much rain in the summer was back in the late 50's. We get flash flood warnings every day! Luckily for us, though the Cumberland river runs behind our property, we live uphill from it. Back in 2010 during the severe Nashville flooding, quite a few houses in our subdivision flooded. Not ours because of the hill, but some just down the street from us did. According to our neighbor, the water got almost to our deck supports at its highest point, but as our deck is off the ground by a full floor, and stands out from the house 8 or 9 feet, there was no danger to the house or its foundation.
Pass some rain Iowa way. Spring -flash flooding to big cracks in ground. Not hot like normal. But we could use some rain. Crop harvest report is down-way down.
Carolyn, on this mornings news, they said that Thurs. morning the temp in Mansfield Ohio could be down in the 30's! I have one Roma tomato plant and it is loaded with fruit, but having trouble getting them to ripen.
Possum Run Road??? the lowest temps in the state on a regular basis. We are spraying our tomatoes every 10 days in hopes of warding off the blight. this is unbelievable for summer temps here in Ohio. Every night is like putting everything in the refrigerator to "keep" longer. the tomatoes are not ripening very fast, not even the ones in the greenhouse.We haven't had the AC on in a month. we almost need the furnace.
