I just love coneflowers... especially because the butterflies love them. So I've been adding and adding them everywhere. Mostly they are shades of pink... and a white one. To my suprise the other day, the "big nursery" had some new colors (and at 70% off). The tags say "Coneflower 'Cheyenne Spirit' Garden Color" These are the one's I brought home. Orange Coneflower ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) Yellow Coneflowers ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) They are really kind of a butter yellow. The camera just couldn't capture it. I'll definitely be gathering seeds.
I saw some of the Cheyenne Spirit at the store the other day, thought it was gorgeous. It was a beautiful reddish orange, kinda like your top pic but a bit deeper in color. I wanted it, but couldnt afford it :/ My paycheck was too small for anything but bills this time around :'(
Bip... I got each of them for less than $3.00. They "real" price was $8.99 each. But then again... almost everything there was that price... "mark it up and then put it on sale" should be the name of that place.
This is a lovely one, Eileen. I have had a number of different orange ones because I like the colour orange. It is such an interesting thing to do--collecting various coneflowers. I would like to see more piccies of what you have sometime.
They are very nice. I don't think I have any cone flowers but I will next year. Do they cone in annuals or perennials?? Can I start them from seed and have them bloom that Summer?
cherylad i also love these flowers but it needs some extra care.Specially they don't need much sun light so that we need to cover it
Lovely things, but sadly even the more usual ones do not survive the winter here. There is a Nursery not far from us and the have had a good selection over the last few years. Expensive in Britain, though, especially when they die in winter. Not into potted plants.
Barb... I guess it depends on where you live whether they're perennial or not. I've had some stay green all winter. And then had some die back and resprout. And some reseeded themselves. And I help with reseeding too in the spring. I just gotta have 'em! Addaneye... mine get partial shade, but mostly sun. Thanks everyone.
I will keep an eye open for them as the season winds down. They should go on sale. I just have to remember. I like the orange one. Jerry
They are lovely, I particularly like the first photo, but as Palustris says, I doubt they would survive here, such a shame.
Cheryl--Beautiful colors. Particularly the orange! I grow the pink ones & finches go for the seeds. As the flowers begin to pass, the birds descend on them!
I bought myself 4 of these for my birthday this summer. You will love them, they tend to change colors!! :-D I'll try to post some more recent photos of mine.
