    Is this another bird that drops shells on rocks to open them or do they have a shucking knife? My preferred method is a shucking knife I never tried smashing them.

    They don't drop them. So that makes them good guys.

    I guess our oyster catchers could be called pied birds smoking carrots then as they have the same orange bills as your black ones. ;) Strangely enough neither species actually eats oysters though.
