When you see a pond covered with duck weed, have you ever looked at it closely. This picture is about two inches across as we were photographing some of it. You may not see all the beetles and small crawlies, but there are 17 that I could see on this picture before I resized it for this post. ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden ) This is about 1/4 of the picture above, you can see some of the bugs. ( photo / image / picture from Kildale's Garden )
It's actually mind-boggling if one stops to think how much life there is around you everywhere. Even on your own body! You have good eyesight Kildale
I have duck weed in the pond and, you're most definitely right, it is covered in little creepy crawlies. I don't mind though as they provide food for the frogs, newts and toads as well as some enterprising birds.
Wow! Very cool Kildale. This reminds me: the other day, I saw a photo of two large round troughs of water full of duck weed. They were actually gorgeous and frogs loved them. It was on Margaret Roach's website (Margaret Roach of "A Way to Garden" fame). Can I put the link to it here? I never really have known what the rules are about that. Well, here goes: http://awaytogarden.com/slideshow-augus ... n-open-day This will take you to Margaret's link about her open house at her garden. If you scroll down to the set of photos, the duck weed troughs are in the 9th photo. While you're at it, check out photo 10 too! I wonder about such troughs providing excellent mosquito breeding grounds, but maybe the frogs take care of that!
