Container gardening are perfect for those people who do not have much spare space. It also easier to control over the plant growing. when the temprature is too high, you can move it to shadow, when the plant need more sunshine, you can move it under the sun. as i am interested in herbs, so here are herbs that suit for container growing. First, mint. you can get ten times after you plant one. Mint can also be used as condiment for cooking. Next is Rosemary. Rosemary need to grow under sun. it is rarely bothered by insects. Basil need much water to keep the fresh of its stems and tender leaves. it's another condiment for cooking. moderator's note: removed website link, see point 1.1 of usage rules
ellaloo--I grow many of my herbs in containers, right outside my kitchen door! I have discovered that deer have a taste for basil, of all things, so I keep my basil up on a high table on the terrace.
I do not do to much herb gardening. I did plant a lemon basil in my garden to my dismay. It reseeds itself and tries to take over. I should have put it in a container. So now it's pull, dig, and toss when ever I see one growing. Maybe I will keep a small outcast and plant it in a pot. It does smell wonderful rubbed between ones fingers. Not sure how I could use it in cooking since it is lemon scented. I also have mint planted in a spot a way from my other gardens. One it can grow crazy in.
I have lemon balm in my side garden that has been marching around and re-seeding itself like a bully. But it smells good so I feel oddly guilty for ripping it out angrily by the roots! (but I do it anyway!)
