My second bromeliad(the first was a Tillandsia i grew a long time ago). From my understanding you water from the top and not the soil correct? Also i'm pretty sure this one is gonna put pups out soon and the mother plant is gonna die. any further advice would be great. The leaves are also a little curled ( photo / image / picture from Dryairfoliage's Garden )
I think if you get the babies away from mama as soon as you see a root the mama may make it. Also cut the flower out and don't let it bloom and she will live longer.
There are no babies yet and how should i go about removing the flower? Do i just remove the tiny purple flowers or the whole entire pink bract? also my house gets some very dry air i hope thats not a problem. I really hate working with this plant cause the soil clearly has manure in it.
This is my Earth Star. I lost my mama and now I just let them grow and die when they need to. Now I'm not sure what you should do. I know the bigger ones really die after having pups and flowering. Maybe these little ones are not so critical. Hopefully one of our very smart members hops in here to give us the very correct answer.
