    Our oldest son,Tom, was on National Public Radio's Science Friday today. He's in charge of research at a lab at UC-Davis in California. He and his group did research into the chemical components of whiskey and bourbon aged in oak barrels. It was a very interesting interview. He sounded a bit nervous but answered all the questions in a way that an ordinary person could understand. We are really proud of him. He has a PhD in environmental and agricultural chemistry. He's one of our bright stars. We have three.

    Dooley, I listened to that program and never realized he was one of yours! The program was fascinating, as usual. Science Friday seems to get the most articulate, knowledgeable, and sometimes humorous guests who can explain fairly complex things to us ordinary folk.

    Thanks for that link, Dooley.
    First of all, I couldn't help but notice the irony of a chap called Tom Collins speaking about the subject of Whiskey. --chuckle.

    I did like his explanation and could equate his work (in part) to the recognition of DNA aspects that is used to identify individuals as well as their genetic history(background) and make-up.

    Interesting work.

    Tom did research in the wine industry at the UC-
    Davis lab when he was working on his PhD. He developed a way for the industry to....well, I didn't understand it all but he went to France to deliver a paper to the wine industry there.

    I won't pretend that I understood what Tom was discussing but he sounded as expert as you can get Dooley. Thank for providing the link. Yourself and DR must be very proud!
