Well that's one insect I won't ever see here. I could do with a few Praying Mantis though to keep the bugs under control.

We don't see them either, I think that is a good thing as I'm not crazy about them.

Hi Donna,..well captured pictures of that Praying Mantis,..it sure pays to have the camera where you can find it at short notice.

We don't have the Praying Mantis over here but a similar type stick insect in our South West,..Kenmare Bay area,.. its "Acanthoxyla inermis".

I was 12 when I first saw a Praying Mantis. I was walking to the back yard of my parents home when I happened to glance to my left, there sitting on my left shoulder was a mantis, less than 4 inches from my eye. A little unnerving to say the least.

First picture - For few seconds I thought it was as huge as the door. :)

When I was a kid I used to see green praying mantis on tall grasses. I capture them and tie a thread to its body.

What an interesting insect this is, Donna.
Have you ever handled one of these beasts? (You know, to have a close look at them.)

WARE--Your tattoo is equally interesting. --How modern of you! :)

I Used to have a pet one. It was a Flower Mantis. It was an adult only 1 inch long. He was cute at the beginning when i was making friends with him. I would look closely at him and, without realizing it, my nose was right in his face. He would take his to front feet and sort of punch me in the nose. It didn't hurt but it shocked me and make me back off. He was cute.

Well, let's see..... I am, not not young, at all. AND I do still get silly like a kid....AND I do like to live the old fashioned kind of life....BUT I do like modern things, if they are natural. All I have to say that I am extreme about things I believe in or like. My tattoo is 8 feet long and has 86 butterflies and many many other creatures. It stands for what I have devoted my life to. Wildlife, animals. and plants.

No Sjoerd I have never handled a praying mantis. I would be afraid of hurting it.

Hi Ware--it sounds like you are living the best of both worlds--the old fashioned and the modern.
It is amazing that you have such a long tattoo. It is cool that the subject that you have chosen is such a meaningful one to you.
    Chapeau.
