If there are any balcony gardeners here at Gardenstew, I would like to see your photos of your garden and harvest. John

John, I am bringing this topic up again. I know we have some balcony gardeners, they probably just missed this topic.

John I am not a balcony gardener, but I grow a lot of different things in pots for various reasons. Sun probably being one of the main one. Second is to monitor new plants until I feel they are large enough to survive my reckless ways in the garden.

My sunset and painted lady runner beans provided shade on the patio on the south side of the shack. It was such a bounty of beans that I am letting the rest of the harvest mature for dried beans.

I also grow blueberry bushes in large containers. They have actually done much better than new plants stuck in the ground. I expect a great harvest from them next spring.

Some years I plant tomatoes, I prefer cherry varieties, in pots but didn't this year.

I know I'm no balcony gardener, but depending on your climate you should be able to grow just about anything in pots that you would in the same micro climate. I have trees and grasses that have been in pots for decades with temps that got into the 10's F. I do have to get help lifting the trees and grasses out of their pots every five years or so and adding more soil to the bottom. I also scratch in some annuals in the spring to the evergreen pots for added summer color.

    I AM!
    A.... balcony grower.
And my balcony is small, on the North (so there's just a bit of sun in the morning) and I use it for different pots with plants, and also for the seed germination pots.
