Mine is I live in the neighborhood I was born into. I have seen it change from a majority of younger people to a majority of older people and back to younger and so forth. Currently I am among the few older people in my neighborhood. What annoys me is when the older neighbors pass they all wave or speak whereas the younger ones pass and just look straight ahead. I can remember that on week ends there were always cookouts/picnics and family get together through out the neighborhood, today almost never. Through the week you will see the older people out putzing(sp) around with something or taking care of the house or landscaping/garden. The younger generation is hardly ever seen outside, they have lawn maintenance people taking of the lawn and shrubs and snow removal. I think the younger generation of adults along with there children spend all of there free time watching TV, on the computer, Nintendo or text messaging. Someone should show them that there is a life waiting for them in the outdoors.

My pet peeve? Only one? Well, I guess it must be litterers. People who are "too important" or "too busy" to take care of their fast-food containers and Styrofoam cups and other detritus properly. I hate seeing our roadside wildflowers growing among paper napkins and broken glass.

I do not live where I grew up, but various relatives have been back there. Back in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, it was a lovely middle class neighborhood much like the one you describe. All the neighbors knew each other and were friendly. Things were clean and well kept. Now, it is a filthy slum full of illegal aliens and gang infested. They are too lazy to clean things up, and have no qualms about stealing from you or robbing you. My relatives who went back for a visit were scared for their lives in the old neighborhood, and my sister even had her car broken into --it was a very old car, but all she had--and they tried to steal her broken radio.

My pet peeve is related-- I cannot stand people who are too lazy to clean up after themselves or to work [if able to], and are filthy and rude, and have no respect for others.

I was setting in a parking lot waiting for DW. There was a car to my left in the facing parking lane. A jerk almost my age sat an empty yuppie water bottle between my car and his. Loudly I said, that's real nice but don't worry some caring person will put it in the trash for you. He just looked at me and drove away.

I have a few pet peeves similar to Jane's. I hate when people carefully pack all their rubbish into plastic bags, tie them off and then toss them out of their cars all over the countryside. Why can't they simply take it home or put it in the nearest bin? The same goes for those dog owners who 'poop and scoop' and then throw the bag away - sometimes right beside a poo bin. :-x Then there's fly tippers, those who throw away lit cigarette ends (especially out of car windows), chewing gum, paper cups and fast food cartons get me so mad. Why can't they appreciate the beauty of the countryside instead of filling it with their detritus?

Guess I am oblivious because I only see people picking up after their dogs and picking up others trash. :D :D now my husband hearing what I am saying...seldom. I hate having to always repeat myself :-? :-? What's with that? Yes we had his hearing checked...

As well as being another that hates litter louts I'll add a modern pet peeve - when someone can't put down their smartphone while you talk to them. Tap, tap, tap, drives me nuts.

Frank, you hit my second pet peeve! We have had guests sitting in our living room either texting or seeing if they are receiving a text. I asked one couple if they would like a little privacy, like in their car.

If it were my grands, I would tell them that that is VERY RUDE to be on those things while with other people.

I also hate the litterers--AKA PIGS in my books. I would not be so polite when confronting a litter bug. That falls under the category of Lazy and dirty.

Some of my neighbors toss a lot of liquir bottles, so they are drinking and driving too. That is another thing I have no patience with, drunk drivers. They ought to get very stiff penalties for that, for instance first degree murder charges, not just a negligent homicide. They CHOSE to drink and drive, that makes it murder 1 if they cause a fatality.

I have had to stop and put out fires started by people tossing their butts out the window. I was with family at the time, and we had it out before the fire trucks arrived, but they gave it a good dousing just to be safe. I think people who toss lit cigarrets ought to charged with ARSON and MALICIOUS MICHIEF, perhaps endangering the lives others, and whatever else they can dig up, when caught.

John, I think you meant to use the word "bear" as in "bear a burden". It is the same as the animal. "Bare" means naked. ;)
