There are deer in my backyard almost daily, but every time I try and get a shot of them, they bolt. This time I was successful in sneaking out onto my back deck ever-so-quietly. I guess I was stealthy enough because though the deer gave a few sharp looks in my direction, she never did run, just quietly wandered off into the brush. Before I actually got to see her fully, I was sneaking pictures through the deck railing. Not great quality but I wasn't sure if I'd get any better. Now I'm slowly creeping forward, and carefully edged the camera to just barely above the railing. Not much of a view, but I was hopeful I could do better if I took it slow. And here we go! Some sort-of decent shots! How about I zoom in? Stay put little deer, please! I took 4 in quick succession, and you can see just by the angle of her head, that she's looking around. She knows something's up, but can't figure out what! I changed the setting on my camera, to see if I could make the shot any clearer. It didn't, just changed the color a bit. And then she was gone. She was right by the tree line all the way down my back yard when I took these. Several steps later all I could see was her tail as she disappeared. Still, I was pleased to have gotten the pictures I did.
Our's come right up to the house. They will stand there and let you take pictures too. If the cats are out there, they become fascinated with them.
You did really well to get all the shots you did. Deer can be so flighty that it's difficult to catch them with a camera. You got some excellent pictures of her Ronni - congratulations!! :-D
I think deer are beautiful, wish there were some in our neighborhood! They stay across the major street though, in the Metropolitan Airport. Nice big cornfield for them to munch their way through
Thanks all. I feel quite accomplished! I've been trying all year to get a decent photo or two of these little guys that are in my yard frequently!
Nice pics!!! I especially like the last one. I think it has something to do with the lighting on the ground and on the tree leaves above the deer, but it really makes the deer stand out.
There is an area near my home that has deer just laying around in peoples yards. They wander around like it's a petting zoo. REALLY....if you drive through the area you sometimes have to stop for they stop right in the middle of the road. You can easily see 10 within a 10 house span. I was talking to a wildlife guy and he said it happens because they don't feel threatened. The hunters can't shoot near houses so deer find it a safe zone. That actually makes them stay near houses. It sure is a cool thing to see. It is overwhelming to have one come near your car if it's a very little convertible top.(like mine) They almost come over and stick their head in to see you.
I am afraid I am a deer nay-sayer. In our area, we are overrun with deer & with the ticks that they carry. Lyme disease is a constant worry. I have been treated for it twice. So have our neighbors.
