Very informative. Now I am determined to create one, small hugelkulter raised bed. I'm always eager to try new gardening techniques. (Spelling may be in error) Why do I get a black screen when I click spellcheck?
Very interesting stuff. Never heard of HugelKultur until now. I need some more study to be sure, but something like this might work with rain garden basins that my husband dug to slow down run off in our monsoon season. We live in the desert. The soil in these (now empty) basins is damp about two feet down from July/August rains. On flat areas where water wasn't captured, it's dry.
Pricklypear, It would be interesting to do a test bed in your climate. I would imagine a completely sunk hugelkultur bed could be beneficial to collect and preserve water.
