It's always worked but dr was repainting it. He doesn't have it finished yet but with the wind we've been having he put it up anyway. He wants to paint the edges of the blades with red so it spins a red circle. He still has some white to do inside. It's just loaned to us by our neighbor. She wants it back some day.

It was really working overtime yesterday. The wind was out of the northeast and really keeping it spinning.

I have one just like that. During one of the Hurricanes one of the blades actually got bent. It got fixed very quickly for mama was unhappy about it. LOL.

Yes Jerry, it is a very interesting feature for some people's yards.

I have the same one too! Well, it USED to be the same. It spun so fast that it burnt the bearing right out ... literally! I took the top off and now use it for climbing beans to crawl up :)

When my kids were little we lived in a home that had a windmill in the yard. Everyone knew how to find our house.

Ah... Tilting at windmills, something that I always wanted to do! :D Actually, I have a design in my head since the time I was 14, only I have never gotten around to building it...

One question though, is it generating power, or pumping out water?

It's just sitting there showing us how strong the wind is blowing and what direction it is blowing from. Mostly is yard decor!

We actually have many Amish families with working wind mills in our area. I have always wanted a working one. Maybe someday.

When my folks moved to Texas they had a working windmill pumping water into the water cistern. Sometimes the old technology gets a renewed life. Wonder if the old ones will ever come back into fashion or be reborn in another way? The new municipal electric producing windmills seem so big and not nearly so picturesque.

I like the old style windmills much better. I doubt they harm the birds and bats the way the new ones do. The blades on the old style ones are larger and easier for them to avoid. I would love to have a working windmill to pump water here, and perhaps make some electricity for the home.
