AhHa this is one I do recognise as I've seen it on trees over here.

Today we have the lobster mushroom, this actually is not a mushroom, but rather a parasite that grows on mushrooms, turning them a reddish orange color. It is however a favorite for those that like eating mushrooms. Itis called, Hypomyces lactifluorum, the Lobster mushroom.

I like the colour but didn't know it was a parasite that made it like that.

This is a nice looking mushroom that most will see as a mushroom. Really slimy looking with a name to match. Poison Pie, Hebeloma crustuliniforme.

This one appears to have been covered in a high gloss varnish. It's rather pretty despite its name.

Today we show Pleurotus ostreatus, the oyster mushroom. It smells like oysters.

A fancy top on todays mushroom gives us its common name,Lepiota rachodes, shaggy parasol. Rather different from the usual ones.

Today we have another with a name to match it, Gem studded puffball, Lycoperdon perlatum. Just looks like it is covered in gems. Be careful if you sqeeze puffballs as they contain hallucinating stuff, also you don't want it in your eyes.

Here we have one of those small, often missed species, Calocera cornea, Clublike Tuning Fork. Good common name for this one, it is very small.

I was away for the week-end so have a lot to catch up on. The last few pictures are really interesting. The parasol one with its many layers and the oyster one are my favourites. Todays looks like the miniature plants my daughter and I used to put in her toy village. Of course they were made of plastic though.
