    Phillip, I love stories like that.

    My dad grew up in a tiny town in the middle of the Idaho desert. When I was going to graduate school, I was talking to the microbiology department head. He'd mentioned the town my dad grew up in. It turned out that he and my dad went through school together, from kindergarten through 12th grade. They'd lost track of each other, but now they've been able to get back together and renewed their friendship.

    It is a small world, and getting even smaller when people make friends on a site like GardenStew!
    Now we can worry about weather in Scotland, admire gardens in Australia, exchange tips with Canadian gardeners, and find out what a very happy, cute dog named Molly is doing near the river Shannon. It's a small world, but a wonderful one!

    Hi Ronni,..that post was VERY informative and it does make one think you could pass someone connected to you very often but not be aware,..great post Ronni.

    ======================================================

    Hi V for short,..nice story you shared,..i bet you were very surprised to learn of your connection through your Department Head and your Dad,..and i am also sure your Dad was delighted to be reunited with his childhood friend.

    =======================================================

    Well Ronni and Jane mentioned the "Six Degrees Of Separation",..its so true.

    The town i live in is a small enough town and not being from here i would not have any family connections,..i am from the east coast and now live in the midlands,.. however way beyond that town i would have Ex In-laws :) .

    When i came here first i used visit a Bar and have a conversation with this old guy about fishing and gardening,..after a couple of years of this i learned that he was connected to me through marriage.

    I discovered one day that he had a brother whose son married a girl whose maiden name was "Carthy" and she was from the same Townland as my Ex Wife,..on checking with my Ex i then discovered that this girls Father and my Ex's Mother were Brother and Sister,..oh boy was my old guy drinking buddy surprised,..its a small world.

    A few years ago, when I worked at Home Depot, I made a friend named Derek and friended him on Facebook. When I was working at Meijer last year, I made a friend named Aaron. I friended him on Facebook as well. Facebook has a feature called Mutual friends, where you can see if someone you're friends with is also friends with your friends. Turns out, Aaron and Derek were long-time friends! Freaked me out LOL
    And another person I know from Meijer knows ANOTHER friend of mine from Home Depot too (I literally just found this out! AHH!) o_O

    Stop this nonsense! *runs around crazily*

    I love small-world stories. It always makes me think twice before making mischief just in case my mother will hear about it. :D

    Hi Cayuga Morning,..despite thinking i had all the internet protection i was alerted that i had a Key Logger,..the easy explanation is that a Key Logger can see the keys you hit while on a Laptop or Computer,..pretty scary especially if you were making banking transactions online,..so i was Hacked,..however no harm done as i was alerted very quickly.

    Hi Droopy,..i know what you mean,..making mischief would travel very fast :rolleyes: .

    Another "Its A Small World Story".

    On a Christmas visit to Glasgow,..Scotland,..i booked myself into a good city hotel and was enjoying myself,..however i developed a pain in my right wrist and arm,..caused by static electricity from the carpet when walking from my room down to the lift and then pressing the lift button,..a spark would come from my finger to the lift button,..after a few days of this i purchased a rubber eraser and problem solved,..one morning the woman in the room next to me happened to be going down for breakfast the same time as me,..she was standing at the lift reluctant to press the button,..i produced my eraser and smiled,..clever boy,.. :rolleyes: ,..we had breakfast together that morning and every other morning,..by the end of that week we became good friends and went to some shows and out for meals,..at this stage we were holding hands,.. ;) .

    We had a hard job parting when my holiday was finished but she said she would visit Ireland in the near future as she could stay with a woman friend in Dublin where i lived,.."Berthilda",..was her name,..from Baden,..Germany,..well i never expected to see her again.

    Two weeks later i was working late shift and had two calls to make,..no rush as to visit any of them,..so when i came to a T-Junction i could go left or right to either call,..i went left,..no traffic on the road but one car way ahead had stopped with its parking lights lit,..as i got neared i slowed before passing it out glanced at the reg number and Holy Cow it was a German car and the reg was Baden,..Germany,..and there was "Berthilda",..asking a Jogger the directions to her friends house,..she was heading away from where she should have being going,..what a coincidence,..what a reunion,.. :rolleyes: ,..yes its a small world.
