Household tips for easier living

Mirrors and glass shower doors will sparkle if you spray them with white vinegar and leave to dry. Mix baking soda and salt and using a sponge rub the paste over them, then rinse and finally polish with soft cloth.

I am not a health nut...just clarifying this, okay? BUT as I was looking at one of Bunkies postings for some interesting idea (i don't remember what, but it was interesting) I ran across a recipe for tooth paste made from coconut oil and baking soda. Well, I decided to look it up and then I couldn't find it, so I googled a recipe for toothpaste made from these ingredients.

HOMEMADE TOOTH PASTE
2 T coconut oil
2 T baking soda
10 or so drops of peppermint oil (optional) or your desire of flavor of oil
Mix together and dip out a dab to brush your teeth.
At first it was a little weird feeling since there was no foam, but after I got used to it, I won't go back to store bought paste.


THEN I decided to try it for a facial "wash" WOW! Rub it on your dry skin and massage it it for a few moments. Rinse with cool or warm water ( don't wash your eye lids). Your skin will feel amazing.

THEN I decided to try it as a deodorant. Works well for that, also. No need for the scary aluminum based sprays or solids....

Now you have one product and many uses. No need to clutter up the bathroom counter or cabinets with a bunch of different potions.

Coconut oil is really a solid when it sits at room temp, unless it it really warm in the room, them it becomes oil. It can be found in a health food store or the baking isle at the grocery store.

I LOVE this stuff! Since I quit using the commercially produced items I have had no bumps erupting from formaldehyde exposure... I have even been watering in the greenhouse with fertilizer water and my hands are rough, but I don't have the eruptions on my legs and in between my fingers as I did before using this and trust me, using fertilizer is bombarding me with exposure since nitrogen is often a formaldehyde product.

My teeth aren't as sensitive to cold or the one that the nerve radiates up my face isn't, that the dentist says there is nothing wrong with, radiating anymore....hmmm.

I am liking this better day by day.

 

A wonderful tip to save rugs or..

This may be on one of the 5 pgs. here, not going to read all, if not here goes. If you have rubber backed rugs like bathrooms rugs, that are perfectly good on the top side, but rubber dried out and falling off the back, you can fix them, with white silicone caulk, it comes in a tube goes in a gun, and you can spread it with your finger, ours is acrylic, so washes off fingers easy.(dries fast) Beads of this on a rug with no backing or jute backing makes it non slip in a hurry.I just fixed two of my rugs had some bad spots, which I will now launder in warm water, and line dry rather then in the dryer.

And being a housewife for 51 years now, I still say nothing works on glass (windows) mirrors, chrome (faucets)etc.like pure alcohol in a spray bottle, and believe me I've tried it all!!
And for my tile floors (my home is 75% tile) forget the sour vinegar smell, I only use clear ammonia (not the sudsy) in water almost half & half.

 

Susieq07, I don't believe that there is anything posted about rug backing anywhere. Great idea. Thanks. I hate when this happens to rugs, BUT make sure they aren't exposed to sunshine, too. That ruins the backing faster than anything.

Washing soda...

I learned tonight as I was looking for a recipe for home made laundry soap that you can make washing soda from baking soda.

Empty one or two boxes of baking soda on a baking tray. put it into the oven turn it on to 400f and bake for one hour. tadaa..washing soda. in order to test it put a tiny grain of it on your tongue and it should fizzle not taste like salt. promptly spit it out and rinse your mouth.

Egg white based tip is perfect for drawers, wooden furniture to regain its former glory and as far as leather accessories are concerned, banana peels will do the job. It is written in the book and I've already tried it,it really works.

 

Cleaning the vacuum agitator (brush roller) when it gets string, hair, or long fibers of any kind, is much easier by using a seam ripper instead of a pair of scissors. Just run the blade along the mass until you have it all cut in half and viola! pull it right off.

 

thanks for this useful tips, then how about the glass in the kitchen? it's oily and really not easy to sparkle it.

 

I use ammonia to clean the light fixtures that are glass. I take each one out of the lamp and soak them for a few minutes in a pan of warm ammonia water and swish a cloth over them and rinse them.

 

tips for remove odor of fridge: raw flour, bread, lemon piece, clean and dry tower, tea are good things to remove odor of fridge. You just need to put them in it. tower and tea can be used repeated.
