Hello, as I mentioned my bedroom is a disaster. First off, my bedroom is very small and the walls were painted tanned and bone white. I finally had decided to paint it a more vivid color. Now I realized that it is too overwhelming, and have decided to paint the window wall (where the A/C unit is located-mayor eye sore too) with the lightest gray possible or even white, I don't know. Question #1 Should I proceed in repainting the window wall only, what color? (PS the bed is going to have a white bedspread) The other obvious problem is the furniture. It is a complete mismatch. In one hand I have the modern look of a black desk, with a black lamp and a flat screen tv. On the other the dresser and nightstand both wood and "classic style". Now I've read that all furniture should have at least one element in common so I was thinking about refinishing the top of my desk with wood grain contact paper to tie in the wood from the dresser and leave the legs(of the desk) black to tie in the tv (perhaps paint the lamp too and place some black nit knacks around the room and walls?) Question #2 Should I do that with the desk, should I add or get rid of some furniture? Obviously the positioning of the furniture is also a problem. I was thinking of swapping the desk with the dresser. Leaving the tv mounted on that same wall (where the desk will now be underneath it) On to the right corner place the night stand at an angle (so I can place the tv peripherals below and put some decorations on the top) On the opposite side put the dresser on that corner at an angle leave a gap between it and the bed and put a spotlight or plant or something. My head is ready to explode! ANY AND ALL IDEAS WELCOME! http://s155.photobucket.com/user/elpepi ... %20bedroom
Most of the time I leave the decorating to 'my interior decorator', she does a great job. However…..I looked at the pictures and what I saw was blue. I think the wall should be a neutral color with some wall decorations that catch the eye instead of….blue. You are on the right track changing the color but get some eye appealing wall decoration that says look at me. Anyway, there are more members with a better eye for decorating…..but I have thrown my 2 cents in….Hmmm.. because of inflation do I have to throw 2 dollars in?……just wondering. Good luck with your project, Jerry
Hi elpepin and welcome to GardenStew! Well the general rule of thumb says that darker wall colours make a room appear smaller so if you want it larger-looking maybe it's better to go for all light colours? Having said that I once stayed in a room of that size which had a dark crimson red colour, but I loved the coziness it gave it. I'm sorry that I don't have that much advice to give on the furniture but to my eyes it looks fine.
Yes you are correct on furniture changes and yes, paint the wall with the AC an off white even the cardboard or whatever that is around it so it blends in or fades away, are those shades on windows? change them to off white as well, change beddings to off white or at least and off white backgrd. on spread. the blue is ok IMO.
applying wall stickers A good solution to make your website a more cheerful is applying wall stickers for sure the result will be great and you can decorate according to your taste in music, movies, etc ... Moderator's note: removed website link, see point 1.1 of usage rules
Hi elpepin. In my opinion, a minimalist type of design will fit in your room. This will make your room look bigger. Hope this helps.
your bedroom looks crowded, and suggest you change the colour of the TV wall, blue can make you feel constrained. You can use wallpaper to change the whole look.
Hi elpepin, Welcome to Gardenstew! I just scrolled through the advice you have been given a lot of good ideas. You will be able to pick & choose what makes sense to you. In looking at your photos, the first thing that struck me was all the wires emanating from your desk top. And because the desk is right next to a windowed closet (is that what that is?), all those wires are multiplied times 2. I would do something about those wires & move the desk away from the mirror. Desks more often that not are messy (if you use yours at all, that is) & don't need to be doubled. I would put something there that you would like to see doubled, or just nothing at all. I would also do something about those wires. Can't they be bundled in some way inobtrusively, or can you get wireless components? The next idea I have is to mount the TV on the wall. It looks weird on the dresser--makes the dresser look too tall. I also agree with you that the contrast between the wood dresser and the black desk is not great. I personally do not care for that stick on fake wood grain , but that is just my taste. Could you cover the desk in some fabric? Or maybe that would be a hassle. I am not big on that blue wall. Too blue IMO, but if you want to go with it, I would pick up that color somewhere else in the room, the bedspread? Or blue pillows? I agree with others to have the A/C wall the same color as the A/C to disguise it a bit. Making the curtains a different color might distract the eye from the A/C though. My last thought is about the windowed closet. I would pay attention to what you see in it as you enter the room as that will greatly affect the appearance of the room. Do you get what I mean? That mirrored wall can help or hinder your design in the room & must be considered. Good luck with your decorating. Do let us know what you have decided!
elpepin, I just had another idea. Any chance of putting your dresser in the closet? It would de-clutter your room a bit & deal with the wood dresser/black desk issue. Also, which wall has the door to the room? What is the first view you have upon entering?
