Gosh, guess we really shouldn't complain in Coastal Alabama. At 14°, we broke a record.

Went out to cover plants before the severe cold hit but couldn't handle the 'mild' cold.
At the thought of losing so many plants, felt a bit down.

Then my daughter sent a photo of this rare sight...m'six year old grandson...
his first ever encounter with ice...[IMG]

The weren't broken. They just froze up. As I used them they warmed and worked. I stopped at my repair guy and he explained it to me. They are OK.

    That's INSIDE, right? Wow. :(

It's warming up. Still only 18 right now, but considerably better than the previous few mornings.

It boggles my mind how from one day to the next the temperature can swing from the single digits where I'm having to wear 4 layers, to being able to stand outside in the sun with a t shirt on.

I was watching some national news report that actually featured Nashville in one of its segments, citing us as a somewhat extreme example of temperature drops as a result of this polar vortex we're in….something about how the temperature dropped 58 degrees in several hours! Having lived that, I know how strange it was to feel colder and colder as the day progressed….a complete flip to the normal, typical temperature progression of of days warming up. :(

We're supposed to be up in the 50's within the next couple of days, with a pleasant weekend.

Ronni, That is the inside portion of the door, not the outside. We do have cats and rabbits in the garage so I am sure there is extra moisture in the air, but this was extreme. Even the strike plates on the doors inside the house were accumulating frost that night. I don't know what the temp inside the garage was, I don't have a thermometer out there, but it was tolerable, because I keep the litter of new bunnies in there and would not leave them to fend for themselves in these temps.

I forgot to upload the other picture from the garage door. This is my "Frosted Glass" window. It is still frosted today and we are having a heatwave...just like Jen, but colder... at 15f.

Oh, Droopy we are a hardy lot of people here. Today I called the neighbor to bring the dog over and let them play in the chicken yard sans chickens. It was a balmy 20f. I was still cold without my gloves trying to use the camera though. Tomorrow though...HEATWAVE 28f/-2.22c. and sunshine. YAY! sunshine always makes it better. I am going on a produce educational conference and will take pictures if I can...It is being held at a neat place called P. Graham Dunn.

Caroly, we'll be getting your heatwave temps this week-end. :D But going from 8°C/46°F to -3°C/26°F or lower is going to need some getting used to. :D

Last winter we were on a steady -10 to -15°C/14-5°F which is very cold for here. We don't want a repeat this winter.

Ronni, the gsd is ours. We had a dog that was horrible and I PRAYED for this dog. I said "God, if we are to have another dog bring it to our door step" and about 6 months later a friend stopped and asked if we wanted a puppy...for free. They weren't ale to get rid of the 11th puppy of a litter, and I said "NO" thanks, but no. Then God reminded me that I asked him to bring it to my door step, needless to say I felt really little when I was reminded of my prayer, so I stopped a few week later and it was still there, to my amazement. So, I said I would take it, but not for free. She has been the absolute nicest dog I have ever seen. Even the vet last week said she made him want another dog, just because of her personality. I couldn't have asked for a better dog.

    Droopy, stay warm.

I know some parts of the country are experiencing much colder weather than this. But this is Nashville….we just don't GET this cold! :( We'll have a slight respite over the weekend, then the temps are supposed to plunge again.

    I want spring! :smt088

Well, I am not sure I would give a hunnert dollars for them, but they would be welcome. Coming up...-11f. again. I think this has been the longest coldest stretch of winter in a long time. I think the last time it was this cold was in 1986? maybe. I remember my M&D went to Texas for my brothers wedding and left my youngest sister and I home to tend the chores. It was "snot" freezing cold! no way to breathe it without your mouth and nose being covered.
