Here are our hens--all grown up, fluffy, and laying eggs as if there were no tomorrow (they heard not laying leads to "no tomorrow"): Waiting for "free range" time ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) When the weather allows they all go to the outside coop, I let down one of the doors, and they explore the barnyard and gardens. By early afternoon they are back inside, resting and discussing their morning adventures. And Dilemma is getting be be a big calf, but still likes to share secrets with mama: Hey mama, I've got a secret to tell! ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) The newborn fuzz is giving way to real cowhair, and it looks like we have a brunette! Bad Hair Day ( photo / image / picture from marlingardener's Garden ) Of course, it could be that the hairstylist just did a bad dye job . . . .
I'd love to sit in on one of your girls' chat sessions. "Hey... did you see what that Jane was wearing today?" Dilemma is such a camera hog.
It's nice that they get to run around after being cooped up for so long but the hens have no 401k for all those nest eggs? Bummer. :-( Jerry
I can't tell the difference now between the girls and the ladies Jane. It seems no time since your girls were little balls of fluff. Dilemma is getting more handsome every time I see him - I think you're right - he's going to be a brunette. :-D
Dilemma is so cool. My parents have calves also (new season starting now ) and I love going into the field and just walking in-between them. They are very curious and fuzzy.
Cheryl, our girls are fashionistas and are constantly horrified at my "outfits"! Eileen, the only way I can tell the girls from the ladies is by the combs. In a month or two that method if identifying them will go. Right now the ladies' combs are bigger, but the girls are catching up. Frank, calves are cute, and they have the most amazingly wet noses, don't they? Jerry, we are the hens' retirement plan. We provide and they consume. Works well for the chickens!
Wow, they sure have grown! My kids were trying to talk me into getting chickens just yesterday! I don't know anything about it, so I told them I would think about it. Dilemma sure has grown too!
Great picture of the hens,..all grown up and rearing to go outside and sample the free range goodies,..Dilemma is certainly not camera shy,..thrives on it most likely,..yep he is going through a hair change.
I was going to write something nice but then I spotted Dilemma's mom's horn and clean forgot what I was going to say. I think your hens have a lovely life. Dilemma's grown a lot since the last time I saw a photo of him.
