Any idea what the blue tropical waterlily was named? Given a position they like, it usually takes a month to go from sprout to blooming when Summer warms.

Plant shock can be be a big factor when trying grown out plants, plants pushed in a hot climate may not respond well to a cold dunk.

It has to be said, that blue one, Star of Siam is probably the most distinctive of the blue violet waterlilies. The King of Siam is not so shabby...

It's one I'll be listing spares of on ebid, bonanza, webstore :)

Needless to say, there is a Queen of Siam which has a more girly tone to its bloom

Not that the hardy and tropical waterlilies have it all theiir own way, they have some way to go to match lotus blooms.

Lotus blossoms are sooooo pretty. I tried starting one from seed but it didn't make it past it's first couple of little leaves. :(

Lotus can be a bit tetchy in hot climates, nowhere near as heat tolerant as the night bloom tropical waterlilies which can cope with midday sun and water temps over 95°f

With successional planting a water garden can be perking with unexpected surprises throughout the year, right from the get go when Winter thaws...

That is Golden Club, a native aquatic plant of ponds and bogs, a perky sight flowering soon after the last frosts

Not my favourite word at this time of year!

I had an inch or so of ice in my container ponds recently. Sure hope it didn't severly damage the lilies.

I'll probably lose a fair bit this Winter, temps have been down to 9°f this week and there's much worse on the long range forecast

Would rather think about Summery stuff! Counting days to planting out tubers of stored tropical waterlilies!
