After lots of digging, soil sieving to get rid of stones, old construction materials and mixing the sieved soil with imported compost from my old place and not forgetting the very important new residents, earth worms, I am now ready. First Planting in New Mini-Farm ( photo / image / picture from KK Ng's Garden ) I have two 2ft by 6 feet bed and one 3ft by 6ft bed and had started planting on the first one. I am doing direct sowing and those plastic rings are where the seeds were sown. On the right of the trellis I have long beans followed by brassica, amaranth, beetroot and bitter gourd at the other end of the trellis. I wanted to mulch the beds with grass clippings but is now a very rare commodity. I think I'll start sowing the next bed in two or three weeks time so that there is some kind of continuity ... I think.
You've achieved a lot since moving into your new home. The beds look great!! I hope all your seeds germinate for you.
I'm tickled to see the new mini-farm get started. With all that prep work, I'm sure it'll be producing in no time.
Looks like you are settling right in with the mini-farm, KK. It will be nice to see vegetables growing again. Are there any environmental differences between the two yards? Amount of sun or daytime shadows etc.? Jerry
Thank you all and I am keeping my fingers crossed that the road ahead is smooth! Jerry what you see in the photo is all the yard I have and I have segmented it into 3 parts - front, middle and back and is in the direction of south west to north east. The front and the back get the most direct sunlight of about 8 hours a day and the mid-section get slightly less because of the shadow casted by the house in the morning and the neighbor's in the evening maybe 6 hours or less. I guess there is not much different.
Yes to all of the above, especially the differences you are experiencing. This is a fine looking start for sure.
